Esther Okoronkwo has distanced herself from the viral statement she was alleged to have made about President Bola Tinubu. The Super Falcons player stood out at WAFCON, netting two goals and providing six assists in six appearances. She even bagged Woman of the Match awards in the semi-final and the final against hosts Morocco. After winning the WAFCON, President Tinubu hosted the team to a high-profile presidential reception. Subsequently, a quote alleged to be from Esther Okoronkwo began to circulate. The statement, initially posted on Instagram by a verified page named @renewedhope2027 was designed to appear as a glowing endorsement of President Tinubu from the Super Falcons star. The alleged quote attributed to Okoronkwo reads: “I was absolutely surprised by the way the President welcomed, honoured, and celebrated us. “As you already know, I’m Igbo, and because of the 2023 elections, there’s a way people portrayed the President as a bad person, calling him all sorts of names. I had that mentality too. But after meeting him yesterday, I saw a completely different person. Caring, kind, with a great sense of humour. He is nothing like what they say. If you meet him, you’ll definitely fall in love with him. May the President succeed.” After sharing the quote, @renewedhope2027 wrote in the caption: “Super Falcons star ESTHER OKORONKWO expresses her joy after meeting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at Aso Rock yesterday.” However, Esther Okoronkwo took to her personal Snapchat account to deny making such statement. She shared a screenshot of the said quote with a caption: “Abeg, when did I talk this one?” She added an “SMH” (shaking my head) emoji.
