Swedish striker, Viktor Gyökeres has stressed that he decided to join Arsenal over his other suitors because the Premier League side is the best club for him.
Naija News reports that Viktor Gyökeres officially signed his contract with Arsenal on Saturday after successfully completing his medical at the Emirates.
Gyökeres who reportedly pressured Sporting Lisbon to sell him to the Gunners, will wear the iconic number 14 shirt, once worn by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.
“There were more clubs involved, but I wanted to come here to Arsenal… It’s the best club for me,” Gyökeres told the club’s official website on Thursday, July 31.
“It wasn’t an easy deal. Some people spoke to the media all the time… they thought they were protecting the interest of the club.”
The transfer ends Arsenal’s months-long search for a clinical striker. The absence of a natural No. 9 was widely seen as the club’s Achilles heel during the 2024/2025 campaign, where they narrowly lost the Premier League title to Liverpool.
Gyökeres arrives on the back of a phenomenal season in Portugal, where he netted 29 goals and provided 9 assists across all competitions.
Gyökeres’ arrival at the Emirates Stadium is expected to significantly sharpen Arsenal’s edge in front of goal. His physical presence and clinical finishing offer a different dynamic, one that the Gunners lacked in key moments during last season’s title race.
