Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has revealed he would gladly swap the glitter of European football for the vibrant atmosphere of the Nigerian league, if only to escape what he calls the “boring” lifestyle in Europe.

Victor Boniface, 24, stated this on The Culture League Podcast, a show he co-created with fellow Super Eagles stars Wilfred Ndidi and Raphael Onyedika, hosted by popular TV presenter VJ Adams.

The conversation drifted into personal lifestyle choices and dreams, leading to an unexpected revelation from Boniface.

Asked where he would move if given a blank cheque, the one-time Bundesliga champion said: “I will play for MFM in Lagos,” referencing the now-defunct Mountain of Fire and Miracles Football Club.

He explained that his preference was deeply tied to staying close to home. “If Nigeria is like a six-hour drive to Germany, I would stay here and drive every morning to train and play in Germany. Europe is boring,” he said.

When pressed about what he misses most, the former Union Saint-Gilloise striker said: “The food. Not just the food, life close to family, friends, you understand.”

Despite his longing for home, Boniface has committed his future to Bayer Leverkusen, recently quelling transfer rumours linking him to other European clubs.

Speaking to German outlet Sport Bild, he confirmed he would be staying with the 2023 Bundesliga champions.

“My future is here. From my perspective, it’s 100 per cent clear that I’m staying. I still have three years left on my contract. I want to win titles with Bayer and have a great season,” the Nigerian international said.

“Even when things weren’t going so well for me last season, I spoke to sporting director Simon Rolfes and told him that I love it here. The January transfer to Al-Nassr didn’t work out. It is what it is. I’m here.”

Note that Leverkusen will kick off their league campaign against Hoffenheim on August 23.
