President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has constituted a special committee, chaired by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, to resolve the lingering crisis rocking the Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News reports that the presidential panel, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, is tasked with addressing the internal wrangling that has plagued the party in the state for years.

Other members include Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State; former House of Representatives Speaker, Yakubu Dogara; Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Abdullahi Abubakar Gumel; Senior Special Assistant to the President (Political), Alhaji Ibrahim Masari; and Alhaji Usman Abubakar Gotomo. The Speaker’s Chief of Staff, Prof Jake Dan-Azumi, will serve as the committee’s secretary.

The statement revealed that the Abbas-led panel began work in late July with its inaugural meeting in Abuja, where members deliberated extensively on strategies to tackle the crisis.

It quoted Speaker Abbas as saying the President had carefully chosen members “based on their integrity, track record, and capacity to act fairly and objectively.”

He urged them to “meet expectations by completing the assignment within one month,” ahead of the APC congresses.

Following an in-depth review of the crisis, which the committee traced to the party’s 2015 primaries in Bauchi, members resolved to embark on a fact-finding mission.

A key stakeholders’ meeting was subsequently held on July 31 at the Yobe State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, with Governor Buni presiding in the absence of Speaker Abbas.

Notable figures present included two former Bauchi governors, Mohammed Abubakar (SAN) and Alhaji Isa Yuguda; Senator Surat Dada; Senator Salisu Matori; and the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Ali Pate, among others.

The panel is expected to submit its recommendations in the coming weeks for further presidential intervention aimed at restoring unity within the Bauchi APC.
