President Bola Tinubu has sent his congratulations to the winners of Saturday’s by-elections held in 16 constituencies across 12 states.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the elections as largely peaceful and commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a “hitch-free exercise, mostly devoid of violence.”
According to results declared by INEC, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victories in 12 constituencies, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won in two. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) won one constituency each.
President Tinubu particularly congratulated the new APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, for what he described as “an emphatic first victory” under his leadership.
The President also lauded APC governors and leaders for their role in the success of the elections, emphasising that teamwork and unity of purpose were critical factors.
“Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda has shown leadership capacity and demonstrated what is achievable when popular candidates are fielded and with unity of purpose among party leaders,” Tinubu remarked.
Reassuring Nigerians of his administration’s commitment, the President stated, “To all APC faithful and the electorate, thank you for the confidence reposed in our party. Be assured that our Renewed Hope slogan is not a mere slogan. Our destination is a better, more secure and prosperous Nigeria. We shall take you there, by the Grace of God.”
Tinubu also commended all the political parties and candidates who participated in the elections, urging them to embrace sportsmanship and fair play.
He said, “I enjoin all participants to continue to be guided by the spirit of sportsmanship, fair contest, and magnanimity, which are enablers of enduring democracy.”
