'These Actions May Cause Your Visa To Be Revoked' - U.S Issues Fresh Warning To Nigerian Students

The United States government has warned that students currently studying at American institutions may lose their visa if they fail to comply with certain regulations that guide their stay in the country.

The American government, in a statement issued on Monday via the official 𝕏 account of the U.S. Mission in Nigeria, warned that such actions may affect the eligibility of these persons for future U.S. visas as well.

The statement specifically warned students against dropping out, skipping classes, or leaving their program of study without informing their school.

Naija News reports that the statement warned students enrolled in American institutions to adhere to the terms of their visa and maintain their student status to avoid any issues.

The statement reads, “If you drop out, skip classes, or leave your program of study without informing your school, your student visa may be revoked, and you may lose eligibility for future U.S. visas. Always adhere to the terms of your visa and maintain your student status to avoid any issues.”

It will be recalled that the United States Mission in Nigeria also recently issued a strong warning to Nigerians seeking to travel to the US primarily to give birth to secure American citizenship for their children.

In a post on its official handle on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter), the US Mission reiterated that using a visa for childbirth purposes is a violation of US immigration policy.

“Using your visa to travel for the primary purpose of giving birth in the United States so that your child will have U.S. citizenship is not permitted,” the statement read.

It further warned: “Consular officers will deny your visa application if they have reason to believe this is your intent.

The warning comes amid heightened checks on visa applications and tighter enforcement of policies against ‘birth tourism’—the practice of travelling to the US to give birth so that a child automatically obtains American citizenship.
