Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, has dismissed speculation that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is in disarray, insisting that there is no division within the party despite recent leadership crises.
Naija News understands that the opposition party has been battling internal wranglings triggered by competing interests and power struggles ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Wednesday, Moro stressed that a proper division in a political party only exists when there are two parallel leadership structures, a situation he said does not apply to the PDP.
He said, “There is no division in PDP. The problem in PDP is not a division in PDP. A division in a party that could lead someone to leave the party and join the other in line with the constitution is where the leadership of the party is divided and there are two parallel leaderships in the party.”
The lawmaker recalled the era of the ‘new PDP’ as a classic example of a genuine division, explaining that at the time, both factions operated with full party structures.
Moro argued that the current disagreements among members are “merely contending tendencies” which should not be misconstrued as a split.
“But because of the semblance of crisis and disagreement, or conflict, among the members of the party does not constitute division. That’s why I keep insisting that PDP is not divided,” he said.
He added, “There is no division in PDP; there are contending tendencies within the party. That’s not division.”
