There are no polling units on Twitter and Facebook – Governor Uba Sani mocks El-Rufai

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has dismissed the role of social media in electoral victories, taking a swipe at his predecessor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, during a stakeholders meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna. Sani, while addressing party members after the APCs success in Saturdays by-elections, said opposition parties were relying on online propaganda instead of grassroots mobilisation. There is no ballot box on Twitter. There is no ballot box on Instagram or Facebook. Elections are won at the grassroots, not on social media, the Governor said, drawing applause from party loyalists. He stressed that while the opposition chose to fight the propaganda battle, his party concentrated on political engagement, inclusivity, and governance, which resonated with the electorate. Our opponents chose to fight the propaganda battle, but we chose to fight the political battle. They lost because the people know who is working for them. We will not waste our time on social media noise-making, he added. Sani described the APCs victory as historic, noting that it broke long-standing barriers in communities that had never voted for the party since 1999. Since 1999, some communities have never voted for our party. But today, they stood with us because they saw inclusivity in action. We made a pledge to defend everyone, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, or party affiliation- and we kept it, he said. He urged party executives to remain faithful to the APC manifesto, warning that sustained connection with the people was the only path to electoral success in 2027. APC State Chairman, Air Commodore Emmanuel Jekada (rtd.), also addressed the meeting, saying unity was crucial for the partys future. This is not the time for blame games but for collective responsibility. No aspiration is too big to be sacrificed for the unity, peace, and progress of our party.
