Nigeria’s Super Falcons have retained their position as the highest-ranked women’s national team in Africa, following the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking released after the July-August 2025 international window.

Despite only a modest gain of 7.54 points, rising from 1623.29 to 1630.83, the Super Falcons remain far ahead of their continental rivals in both performance and ranking. The Nigerian side remains the 36th-ranked team globally.

The update reflects results from 196 international matches played across various competitions, including the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, and World Cup qualifying rounds.

South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, who entered the window as reigning African champions, failed to register a win in the knockout stage of WAFCON. Their poor run resulted in a loss of 22.92 points. However, they held on to 54th place globally and second in Africa.

Morocco, which reached the WAFCON final and played the most matches during the ranking period (eight), dropped slightly, falling one spot from 63rd to 64th and shedding 12.42 points despite their historic performance.

Zambia remained 65th in the world after a mixed tournament showing. Their 5-0 loss to Nigeria in the quarter-finals overshadowed earlier group-stage victories over DR Congo and Senegal. They gained just 6.93 points overall.

Ghana, despite securing third place at WAFCON, dropped marginally to 67th with a minimal -0.87 point change. Cameroon and Ivory Coast, who did not participate in any official matches during the ranking period, fell to 66th and 71st respectively.

Algeria and Senegal recorded notable improvements, climbing by 14.79 and 12.6 points respectively, and rounding out Africa’s top 10 alongside Mali. Botswana emerged as Africa’s biggest mover, gaining 32.15 points and jumping seven spots to 146th globally, following competitive performances against Algeria, Nigeria, and Tunisia.

On the global scene, Spain reclaimed the No. 1 position in the world rankings after reaching the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 final, overtaking the United States. France moved up four places to sixth, while Brazil fell to seventh despite defending their South American title.

Bangladesh made the most dramatic rise worldwide, climbing 24 places and adding 80.51 points, after qualifying for the final round of the AFC qualifiers for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. The Solomon Islands also reached a new high, rising 13 places to 73rd globally.

The next edition of the FIFA Women’s World Ranking will be released on December 11, 2025.
