
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved the elevation of the Force’s Legal Section to the Directorate of Legal Services.
This upgrade is part of ongoing strategic reforms designed to enhance institutional capacity across various departments.
In a press release on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Police Force, Force Headquarters, Abuja, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, noted that the Directorate of Legal Services will now serve as the apex legal arm of the Nigeria Police Force, tasked with coordinating and delivering critical legal services.
Naija News understands that key responsibilities include legal training, policy review, and structured engagement with prosecutorial bodies, the judiciary, and other stakeholders within the justice sector.
This move is set to foster a more cohesive and internationally recognised legal framework for the Nigerian Police.

In line with this development, IGP Egbetokun also announced the appointment of AIG Ohiozoba O. Ehiede, as the inaugural Director of the Directorate of Legal Services.
With his extensive experience, leadership skills, and distinguished service, AIG Ehiede is poised to drive the Directorate towards excellence in fulfilling its mandate.
The creation of the Directorate reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s renewed commitment to aligning its operations with international law enforcement standards.
The aim is to enhance prosecutorial effectiveness and meet the highest levels of professionalism, transparency, and efficiency, ensuring the legal processes within the Force are robust and aligned with global best practices.
IGP Egbetokun has called on all officers, particularly legal practitioners within the Force, to lend their support to the Directorate’s efforts in advancing justice delivery, improving prosecutorial success rates, and boosting public confidence in police operations.
