The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Tuesday paid a condolence visit to the family of the late former President, Muhammadu Buhari, in Kaduna State.

According to a close associate of the Emir, Muhammad Dallatu, the monarch arrived at Buhari’s residence around 1:00pm and was received by the late President’s wife, Aisha Buhari, and son, Yusuf Buhari.

Naija News reports that senior members of the Kano Emirate Council and palace aides accompanied Sanusi.

During the visit, the Emir offered prayers for Buhari’s repose, describing the former Nigerian leader as “a statesman of deep conviction, discipline, and national service.”

“We are here on behalf of the Kano Emirate and the good people of Kano to sympathise with the family and offer our prayers,” Sanusi said.

He encouraged the family to remain steadfast and take solace in Buhari’s impactful and principled life, noting that his leadership style earned him both national and international recognition.

Buhari, who served as military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023, died recently after a brief illness.

He was buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, according to Islamic rites.

Sanusi’s condolence visit is one of several by traditional and political leaders to the Buhari family as the nation continues to mourn the passing of one of Nigeria’s most influential post-independence leaders.
