Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Remo Stars, have discovered their opening test in the 2025 CAF Champions League after Saturday’s preliminary round draw in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The Ikenne-based side will battle the Comoros outfit US Zilimadjou in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, with the first leg set to take place in Nigeria this September. The return leg will be played away in Moroni.
Victory over the Comoros champions will hand Remo Stars a high-profile second-round clash against South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns.
Nigeria’s second representative, Rivers United, will lock horns with the yet-to-be-confirmed league champions from the Democratic Republic of Congo in their first preliminary round fixture. Should they progress, the Pride of Rivers will square off against either AC Leopards of Congo or Black Bulls of Mozambique for a place in the group stage.
Remo Stars are seeking to make a strong continental statement after clinching their maiden NPFL crown, and Rivers United are eager to reassert their presence among Africa’s elite.
Note that the CAF Champions League preliminary round matches will be played in a home-and-away format, with aggregate winners advancing to the next stage.
The Preliminary Round is scheduled to kick off on 19 September 2025, followed by the Second Preliminary Round starting on 17 October 2025.
The Group Stage of both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup will begin on 21 November 2025, with the knockout phase set to commence on 13 March 2026.
