The Ondo State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has announced the dismissal of its state secretary, Jimmy Akinyan, over alleged indiscipline and anti-party activities.

The decision was disclosed on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting of the party in Akure, the state capital.

Naija News reports that in a communiqué issued after the meeting, the state chairman, Gbenga Akinbuli, said the move was aimed at enforcing internal discipline and repositioning the SDP as a credible opposition in the state.

According to Akinbuli, a review of Akinyan’s conduct revealed multiple violations of party ethics.

“He was found culpable of acts of sabotage during elections, insubordination, and financial misconduct. The findings were grave and could not be ignored,” the chairman said.

He stressed that such conduct amounted to a “gross violation of the party’s collective trust.”

“In the wisdom of stakeholders, such behaviour cannot coexist with the principles of loyalty and ideological conviction which the SDP stands for,” Akinbuli added.

Akinbuli also revealed that a five-man disciplinary committee chaired by the State Legal Adviser had been set up to probe the matter further and determine Akinyan’s continued membership in the party.

Meanwhile, a party chieftain, Femi Ikoyi, has been appointed as the new state secretary.

The party boss maintained that the step was not just punitive but part of a wider effort to cleanse the SDP of saboteurs.

“This is not just a disciplinary measure, but the beginning of a broader effort to purge the SDP of sabotage and infiltration. We are determined to build a party of conviction and loyalty, one that truly represents the aspirations of our people,” Akinbuli declared.
