Several members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Dawakin Tofa, the home constituency of former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, have defected to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Naija News reports that the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, formally received the defectors at the Government House in Kano on Friday, according to a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature.

Describing the development as a vote of confidence in his government, Yusuf said the defections were “a clear endorsement of our programmes and policies over the last two years.”

Recalling his 2023 campaign tour across all 44 local government areas, including Dawakin Tofa, the governor stated, “I promised to deliver dividends of democracy to every part of Kano State. Dawakin Tofa is a crucial local government in our struggle, and I am the happiest person to witness this massive defection from APC to NNPP.”

Yusuf listed some of his administration’s achievements in the area, including the completion of a five-kilometre road abandoned by the previous administration. He pledged to build a new school in the constituency.

He assured the new NNPP members of full integration into the party without discrimination or intimidation and promised more projects for the people. He also revealed plans for a familiarisation tour ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor further announced that the Dawanau International Market would be restructured into an agency with a board and a Managing Director to ensure efficient administration.

Commending the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Chairman for generating ₦500m internally and using the funds for developmental projects, Yusuf pledged to address all pending complaints from the area.

The local government chairman, in his remarks, said his administration had completed projects in 15 primary schools and sponsored over 1,000 students in tertiary institutions.

Also speaking, NNPP State Chairman, Hon. Hashim Dungurawa, congratulated the defectors and expressed optimism that Dawakin Tofa would replicate and even surpass the party’s 2023 electoral success in Gwale.

“God willing, Dawakin Tofa will do even better,” he said.

Prominent figures who joined the NNPP include: Hon. Nura Tumfafi, Hon. Isyaku Dahiru Kwa, Alhaji Umar Ismail, Alhaji Abba Muntari, Sani Shafiu, Hussaini Adamu, Alhaji Abdullahi Ayuba, Magaji Ruba-Ruba, Sabo Adamu, and Abdullahi Sale Turaki.
