The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, on Monday, officially flagged off the party’s senatorial bye-election campaign in Uromi, Edo State, calling on residents of Edo Central to support the party’s candidate, Paul Omo Okojie, ahead of the August 16 poll.

Speaking during the campaign launch, Abure said it was time for Uromi to produce the next senator for Edo Central, noting that other local governments in the district had already occupied the position.

Naija News reports that Abure said, “It is now Uromi’s turn to occupy the Senate seat. The other LGAs have had their share. We must give Uromi the chance, and the best person to lead this cause is Hon. Paul Okojie.”

The Labour Party Chairman described Okojie as a young, vibrant, and courageous leader capable of representing the aspirations of the people of Edo Central in the National Assembly.

“We have only one authentic candidate for this election and he is Paul Okojie. Security agencies must apprehend anyone impersonating our candidate. The Labour Party will not tolerate such illegality,” Abure warned.

He urged party members to return to their wards and LGAs to mobilise massive support for the party during the election.

In his address, Okojie vowed not to step down for any candidate, stating that he had joined the race to win and deliver real representation for the people of Edo Central.

“I am not just in the race to add to the numbers. Whenever I drive through Edo Central, I weep because of how underrepresented we are. We need someone who can speak and be heard. I am offering myself to you, and I promise never to disappoint,” Okojie said.

He also urged voters to reject moneybag politicians, stressing the need for genuine change.

“This is the moment to speak loudly. Say no to deceptive politicians. Say yes to progress,” he declared.

Okojie outlined his legislative agenda, pledging to attract an agro-research institute to Edo Central to boost agricultural value chains. He also promised to prioritise primary healthcare, education, and the establishment of a technology hub for youth empowerment.

Earlier, the Deputy Chairman of the Labour Party in Edo State, Nekerton Franklin, cautioned members against defections motivated by personal gain and urged them to remain committed to the party’s ideals.

Similarly, the Labour Party LGA Secretary, Osas Eromosele, called for unity and loyalty as the bye-election approaches.

The highlight of the campaign launch was the official presentation of the Labour Party flag to Okojie by the National Chairman, symbolising his endorsement and formal recognition as the party’s senatorial candidate.
