The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has countered the claim by the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, that the party is pursuing a northern agenda for 2027.
The ADC spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, said Kachikwu should be ashamed of himself for making such a submission.
He also described Kachikwu’s statement as ridiculous, adding that ADC is not designed for any specific demography of persons, but the whole of Nigeria.
“You see, it’s ridiculous to say the least, and he [Dumebi Kachikwu] should be ashamed of himself.
“ADC is a party, and we said this from day one, it’s neither a party of the North nor of the South. It’s neither a party of Muslims nor of Christians. It’s neither a party for old people, so it’s a party that is deliberately designed to develop and build the kind of future that Nigeria desires,” Abdullahi said on Sunday during a Channels Television interview.
Naija News reports that the ADC spokesperson’s statement comes as a direct reaction to the earlier claim by Kachikwu, who alleged that the ADC is not interested in a southern candidate, but is pushing a northern agenda.
Similarly, a chieftain of the coalition, Mani Ibrahim, who also appeared on the show, stated that Kachikwu does not speak for the party and should be disregarded.
“I think it is good to understand the fact that Dumebi Kachikwu is not a member of our party (ADC), he does not represent the party, and has no right to talk on behalf of the ADC,” the former ADC BoT chairman said.
