Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Benue State command, have rescued six Nigerian Law School students abducted while travelling from Anambra State to Adamawa.
In a statement released on Friday, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet, said the students were heading to the Yola Campus of the Nigerian Law School when they were intercepted by armed kidnappers along the Benue-Taraba boundary.
The kidnappers are said to have earlier demanded a ransom of ₦120 million, threatening to kill the captives if the amount was not paid. It is unclear if any ransom was paid before the students’ release.
“Please be informed that the police have successfully rescued six law students of the Yola campus, who were abducted on July 26, 2025, while traveling from Anambra State to Adamawa State. They have been safely released and reunited with their families this morning, August 1, 2025,” the command’s statement read.
Naija News understands that the kidnapping incident had initially reignited concerns over rising insecurity in Benue State and surrounding regions.
Last year, 20 medical students travelling to the University of Jos, Plateau State, were kidnapped along the Otukpo-Otukpa-Enugu Road.
They regained their freedom only after spending several weeks in captivity.
The police, however, have assured that they are intensifying efforts to curb criminal activities along major highways to protect commuters and restore public confidence.
