The Jigawa State Judiciary has dismissed rumours circulating on social media that a court barred the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Rabiu Mukhtar, from contesting the Babura/Garki Federal Constituency by-election scheduled for Saturday.
Naija News reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fixed the by-election following the death of the former member representing the constituency, Hon. Isa Dogon Yaro.
In an exclusive interview with Punch on Friday night, the Director of Publicity and Protocol of the Jigawa State Judiciary, Abbas Wangara, condemned the false reports.
“There has been no suit whatsoever filed before any honourable court in Jigawa concerning Rabiu Mukhtar Garki’s participation in the forthcoming by-election,” Wangara said.
He stressed that no banning order exists against the APC candidate.
Wangara further clarified that the rumours were “baseless and misleading,” noting that courts in the state were currently in recess and had not entertained any matter relating to the by-election.
According to him, spreading such falsehood undermines public trust and violates judicial dignity.
The judiciary spokesperson urged the public to rely on credible sources of information instead of social media speculation.
“The judiciary remains committed to upholding the law and ensuring justice is served transparently and fairly during this election period,” he assured.
He appealed to political actors and supporters to desist from circulating rumours that could incite unrest or confusion.
“With courts in recess and no pending cases on the APC candidate, Jigawa’s judiciary stands firm in clarifying the facts amid a tense political atmosphere,” Wangara stated.
