Gunmen Abduct Serving Corps Member In Benue

Unknown armed men have reportedly kidnapped a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Saadu Dauda, along the Katsina-Ala-Takum road in Benue State.

According to Daily Post, the incident, which occurred over the weekend, involved a Toyota Carina II with registration number KLD 108 AA travelling from Takum, Taraba State, to Katsina-Ala.

Naija News learnt that the vehicle was carrying seven passengers when it ran into an armed roadblock mounted by the gunmen at Tsede Village, a boundary community between Katsina-Ala and Takum.

The attackers reportedly robbed all the occupants before whisking away Dauda, whose identity was later confirmed through his NYSC ID card found in his bag left in the vehicle.

Security operatives have begun a coordinated operation to track down the abductors and secure the release of the victim.

However, the state command of the Nigeria Police Force has yet to release any official statement regarding the development of the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed claims that it withheld the Certificate of National Service (CNS) of a corps member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye (state code LA/24B/8325), because of alleged critical remarks about the government.

In a statement posted on its official page, the NYSC described the allegation as “entirely unfounded and false in its entirety,” insisting that the decision was taken for valid disciplinary reasons in line with its bye-laws.

According to the NYSC, Ms Ushie is one of 131 corps members whose certificates were withheld for various infractions. In her case, her service year was extended by two months after she failed to attend the April 2025 biometric clearance exercise.

The statement reads, “The NYSC Management wishes to clarify misleading information circulating on social media regarding Corps Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, State Code number LA/24B/8325. Contrary to false claims that she was denied a Certificate of National Service (CNS) due to critical remarks about the government, this assertion is entirely unfounded and false in its entirety.

“Rita is among the 131 Corps Members whose Certificates of National Service (CNS), were withheld for valid disciplinary reasons. Specifically, Rita’s service year has been extended by two months for failing to attend the April 2025 biometrics clearance, a decision that aligns with the NYSC Bye-Laws.

“It is important to note that this extension is a standard procedure and not unique to her case, and the principle of equal treatment was only applied in this case.

“The NYSC Management thus urges the public to approach this matter with understanding, as extending service for non-compliance is a longstanding tradition within the NYSC and should not be politicised.

“The NYSC Scheme remains committed to discharging its mandate, in line with the dictates of the constitution.”
