Former House of Representatives member, Dachung Bagos, has berated the Federal Government over the appointment of veteran Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, as an ambassador for airport security protocols.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television on Thursday, he warned that the government has set a dangerous precedent.
The former lawmaker argued that the decision has sent the wrong message to the public.
“With all the drama, now he is an ambassador, meaning everybody will start moving with the flask, do drama to become an ambassador. No matter the explanation, the perception of Nigerians is that it is entirely wrong,” he said.
Bagos also criticised the possible consideration of Ibom Air passenger Comfort Emmanson for a similar ambassadorial role despite her aggressive conduct at a Lagos airport.
He warned that rewarding such behaviour could encourage disorderly acts on aircraft.
“I’m waiting to see Yahoo boys being arrested by EFCC to be ambassadors… I’ve not even seen justice for people killed in Plateau. What does the law say when you contravene this act?” he added.
He urged the government to focus on passenger sensitisation and review airport security checks, noting that many travellers do not understand the reasons for switching devices to flight mode. He also questioned how Kwam 1’s liquid-filled bottle passed security screening, given its violation of standard rules.
The Federal Government on Wednesday announced Kwam 1’s engagement as an airport security protocol ambassador following a controversial incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on August 5, 2025.
The decision sparked widespread criticism, especially amid comparisons with the Emmanson case, in which the passenger allegedly assaulted a flight attendant and confronted security agents on an Ibom Air flight.
