Everton have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in a deal valued at approximately £28 million.

The transfer includes an initial £24 million payment with a further £3-4 million in performance-based add-ons. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, 26, is now expected to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms with the Toffees, despite late interest from Fulham.

The midfielder had been hesitant to leave Stamford Bridge after a season in which Chelsea secured the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Conference League titles, while also booking a return to the Champions League. However, with playing time limited and Chelsea aiming to balance their books, the club opened the door for his departure.

Dewsbury-Hall joined Chelsea from Leicester City in 2024 for £30 million, linking up again with manager Enzo Maresca, under whom he had excelled in the Championship.

Though he impressed when given chances, scoring five goals across competitions and assisting in the Conference League final, he struggled for consistent minutes behind Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, and Romeo Lavia in the midfield hierarchy.

His most notable contributions came in Europe. He scored four goals during the Conference League campaign and set up Jadon Sancho’s goal in the 4-1 final victory over Real Betis. He also found the net in the Club World Cup semi-final win against Benfica and featured in the 3-0 final triumph over PSG.

Despite showing flashes of quality, Dewsbury-Hall became part of a growing pattern of short-lived Chelsea careers, as the West London giants continue their aggressive approach to squad building and compliance with UEFA’s financial regulations.

The sale is considered crucial for Chelsea. UEFA’s recent enforcement of Financial Fair Play rules has made it clear that the club must post a “positive transfer balance” this summer, particularly involving players from last season’s Conference League squad.

Failure to do so could prevent the registration of new signings like Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, and Liam Delap for the upcoming Champions League campaign.
