Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have reportedly stormed the Green Legacy Hotel, located within the premises of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and arrested several youths suspected of being internet fraudsters.

According to Punch, the early morning raid on Sunday occurred during a pool party at the hotel.

The development comes barely five days after operatives of the EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal Directorate arrested a suspected internet fraudster in possession of two locally-made pistols during a sting operation at K-Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area. That operation led to the arrest of 55 suspects.

A viral video from Sunday’s incident showed panic scenes as youths scampered for safety amid the sound of gunshots. Sources said EFCC operatives arrested an undisclosed number of suspects and seized over 20 luxury cars alongside other valuables.

According to insiders, the operation was executed by personnel from the Lagos Directorate of the commission.

An 𝕏 user, identified as A. Ayomide, narrated how he narrowly avoided the raid.

“Literally left my house past midnight to go to OOPL… got there and the crowd was too much. I don’t like the settings, my guy doesn’t like the settings, so we were just at the car park.

“Left around 1:30… 20 minutes later I get home and I’m getting calls that EFCC is raiding OOPL,” he posted.

The Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, confirmed the EFCC operation but declined to provide details.

“Yes, they did. There was an incident this morning. We will find out and we will let you know,” he told PUNCH.
