D’Tigress Beat Mozambique To Book Quarter-Final Spot At 2025 Women’s AfroBasket

Nigeria’s D’Tigress stormed into the semi-finals of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket on Thursday night with an emphatic 83-47 dismantling of Cameroon in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

D’Tigress, who are gunning for a seventh continental title, wasted no time asserting their dominance after a shaky start. Cameroon had opened with a 4-0 run, but Nigeria, led by head coach Rena Wakama, responded immediately and never looked back.

Nigeria took control midway through the first quarter and widened the gap by halftime, leading 36-18. Forward Amy Okonkwo set the pace with a blistering performance, 15 points and 5 rebounds in just the first half.

Cameroon, visibly drained from their late-night qualification win over Angola, couldn’t keep up with the fresh legs and ferocious tempo of the D’Tigress.

By the third quarter, the result was beyond doubt. The scoreline read 66-31 and the margin only grew from there. Okonkwo finished with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and an assist, while Ezinne Kalu, calm and clinical as always, added five assists.

Nicole Enabosi chipped in with 12 points and 3 rebounds, while Victoria Macaulay delivered on both ends with 12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks, and a steal. Elizabeth Balogun also impressed with 11 points and a solid defensive outing.

The victory sets up a blockbuster semi-final clash between Nigeria and rivals Senegal.

Beyond chasing continental glory, the D’Tigress, along with fellow semifinalists Mali, Senegal, and South Sudan, have now secured qualification for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifying tournaments.

The African quartet will join 20 other national teams from around the world, including the United States, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Puerto Rico, and Colombia, in the quest for a place at the 2026 World Cup.
