Nigeria’s flagbearers in the 2025 CAF Confederation Cup, Abia Warriors and Kwara United, have been drawn against formidable opposition in the preliminary round of the continental competition.
Abia Warriors, set to make their historic debut on the African stage, will square off against Malian giants Djoliba AC in the first preliminary round.
Victory over the Bamako-based side would set up a second-round clash against either Burkina Faso’s USFA or Togo’s AS Gbohloe-su.
For Federation Cup champions Kwara United, the challenge is no less daunting. The Harmony Boys have been paired with Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko in what promises to be one of the standout fixtures of the round.
The winner of that clash will advance to face Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca, a club with a rich pedigree in African football.
Both Nigerian teams will aim to make deep runs in the tournament, despite the tough paths ahead. The preliminary round fixtures are scheduled to kick off in September 2025, with exact dates to be confirmed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
