BREAKING: Boko Haram Attack In Borno Leaves Two Soldiers Dead, Forces Others To Flee

At least two Nigerian soldiers have been killed in a fresh Boko Haram assault on a military base in the Rann area of Kala Balge Local Government Area, Borno State.

According to SaharaReporters, military sources confirmed that the insurgents launched the attack in the early hours of Monday, targeting the army battalion base in the border community.

The fighters reportedly set armoured tanks ablaze before carting away an unspecified quantity of ammunition.

“There was another Boko Haram dislodgement on our base in Borno. The CIO Battalion in Rann, Kala Balge, was attacked by them. They killed two of our soldiers and injured many others,” a source said.

Naija News learnt that some soldiers abandoned their duty posts during the fierce gun battle and fled into neighbouring Cameroon with their weapons.

“Some who managed to escape left their duty post and fled with their arms into our neighbouring country, Cameroon,” the source reportedly added.

The latest attack comes just months after 22 soldiers, including a commander, were killed during an attack on a military base in Malam-Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.

Nigeria has been battling the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East since 2009, with Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states bearing the brunt of the violence.

While the military has repeatedly insisted the insurgents have been ‘largely defeated,’ field reports often contradict this, highlighting continuing threats and casualties.
