Turkish giants Besiktas have officially unveiled Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi on Thursday, August 7, after he completed his medicals in Istanbul.

The club, in a formal disclosure to Turkey’s Public Disclosure Platform, confirmed that negotiations are underway with both Wilfred Ndidi and his current club, Leicester City, regarding a potential transfer.

“Negotiations have started with professional footballer Wilfred Onyinye Ndidi and his club Leicester City Football Club Limited regarding his transfer,” the statement read.

Ndidi, 27, has spent the past seven years at Leicester City, where he became one of the club’s most consistent performers since arriving from Belgian side Genk in 2017.

Though he played a prominent role in Foxes’ promotion back to the Premier League for the 2024/2025 season, Ndidi’s future at the King Power Stadium remained the subject of speculation, especially with just a year left on his current contract.

Now, with interest mounting across Europe, Besiktas appear to have taken the lead in the race for his signature, moving decisively to secure the defensive midfielder as part of their ambitious summer rebuild.

As part of the transfer process, Ndidi underwent a rigorous medical evaluation at Istanbul’s Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital.

“Wilfred Onyinye Ndidi undergoes medical examination,” Besiktas stated.

“Professional footballer Wilfred Onyinye Ndidi, with whom we have begun transfer negotiations, underwent a medical examination this morning at Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital.

“Ndidi underwent comprehensive blood tests and was examined in the orthopaedics, internal medicine, ophthalmology, ear-nose-throat (ENT), general surgery, and cardiology departments. His medical checks were completed with lung and endurance tests.”

The move, now nearing conclusion, is reportedly valued at €9.5 million. According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, both clubs and the player have agreed to the terms.

“Leicester are set to receive €9.5 million. A mutual agreement between the 28 y/o defensive midfielder and the club has been reached,” Plettenberg wrote on 𝕏.

If finalised, Ndidi’s move to Istanbul would mark his first venture into Turkish football and offer a new platform to reignite his career after a demanding few seasons in England.
