The Benue State House of Assembly has turned down the nomination of Timothy Ornguga as a Commissioner for the state.

Naija News understands that he was rejected after former students accused him of mistreating them during his time as a lecturer at Benue State University.

Allegations included dehumanisation, academic victimisation, and psychological abuse.

Ornguga and another nominee, James Dwen, failed the screening process because the assembly found their explanations to the petitions unsatisfactory.

The lawmakers have requested Governor Hyacinth Alia to propose two new candidates to fill the vacant positions.

Six other nominees were approved for commissioner roles.

They are Theresa Odachi, Benjamin Ashaver, Adamu Margaret, Peter Oboh, Denis Iyaighgba, and Paul Ogwuche.

The Speaker of the House encouraged the confirmed nominees to serve the people faithfully.

Ornguga’s nomination had faced widespread opposition, including petitions from the Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) and alumni groups from Benue State University.

Specific cases cited by petitioners involved students who were allegedly unfairly failed or delayed in completing their studies due to Ornguga’s actions.

On July 30, the governor dissolved the state executive council and appointed Moses Atagher, a former Attorney General, as his Chief of Staff.

Former commissioners were asked to handover their duties to permanent secretaries while remaining active in the party.
