Bendel Insurance have released 25 players from their squad ahead of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The announcement was made on Monday, with stand-in captain Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi among the players affected.
“Skipper Meyiwa, others leave as we step up preparation for the new season,” the club said in an official statement. “We announce the departure of our stand-in captain, Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi. We appreciate his services of over a decade to us and wish him success in his future endeavours.”
Other notable names on the exit list include Bernard Ovoke, Austin Ogunye, Stephen Sodje, Uche Collins, and Zaidu Ayuba.
Bendel Insurance, who finished fifth in the NPFL last season with 56 points from 38 matches, have yet to announce any new signings. The club will begin their new campaign with an away match against El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri on August 22.
Meanwhile, former Bendel Insurance coach Monday Odigie is expected to be appointed as the new technical adviser of Bayelsa United.
Odigie has reportedly reached an agreement with the Prosperity Boys and will replace Ladan Bosso, who recently left to join newly promoted Barau FC.
Odigie has been without a club since resigning from Bendel Insurance midway through last season. He led the club to win the 2023 President’s Federation Cup and previously served as an assistant coach at Enyimba in 2014.
