Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has commended the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for appointing youths into its National Working Committee (NWC).

Naija News reports that the ADC had appointed Bilyaminu Duhu as Assistant National Youth Leader, North East, Jackie Wayas as Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Hassana Dada as Assistant National Youth Leader, North Central, David Itokpa as Deputy National Welfare Secretary, and Hauwa Yusuf as Deputy National Secretary.

Reacting to the development via a post shared on X on Friday, the former vice president said the ADC has set a powerful example by including the youths in its decision-making process.

He asserted that the future of Nigerian youths must not be shaped in their absence.

Atiku wrote, “Congratulations to the vibrant young members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Bilyaminu Duhu (Assistant National Youth Leader, North East), Jackie Wayas, @JWEZEE, (Deputy National Publicity Secretary), Hassana Dada (Assistant National Youth Leader, North Central), David Itokpa @iamhistory_, (Deputy National Welfare Secretary), Hauwa Yusuf, @itz_hawee (Deputy National Secretary) and others, on their well deserved appointments to the party’s National Working Committee.

“The @ADCNig is no longer just speaking about youth inclusion; it is now boldly demonstrating it in action.”

Meanwhile, media aide to Atiku, Paul Ibe, has dismissed reports claiming that Atiku is hinting at a 2027 presidential bid.

Naija News reports that the denial follows a viral video on 𝕏 in which Atiku was heard telling journalists that he would make a formal announcement about his candidacy in the next election, and media outlets interpreted the clip as a signal of his 2027 ambitions.

However, Atiku, in a statement released on Friday through Ibe, described the reports as misleading, stating that the viral video being used to support the presidential bid claim is from 2022.

Paul Ibe explained that Atiku’s confident tone in the video was natural for a candidate gearing up for a party primary, and urged the public to view the clip in its proper context, warning against deliberate misrepresentation.

The statement reads, “Atiku’s old video is being used for mischief. Yes, this was former Vice President of Nigeria (1999-2007), Atiku Abubakar, speaking to journalists ahead of the 2023 PDP presidential primary. He sounded confident because that is what is expected of a man who had worked hard and was optimistic of victory in the primaries of the 2023 election. It is important to provide the context of this video to deprive mischief makers of the opportunity of misrepresenting what this video is all about.”
