Ademola Lookman Submits Transfer Request, Alleges Broken Promises by Atalanta

Atalanta are preparing legal action against African Player of the Year, Ademola Lookman, after the Nigerian international left Italy without permission and refused to attend training sessions in protest at the club’s rejection of Inter Milan’s transfer offer.

According to Football Italia, Ademola Lookman, 27, embarked on an unauthorised vacation after Atalanta turned down Inter’s latest bid. The club’s owners, the Percassi family, are reportedly ready to impose a significant fine, describing his behaviour as “completely unacceptable.”

“After missing a few training sessions with Atalanta, Lookman has decided to leave Italy and go on an extra summer vacation,” the report stated. “The Percassi family have prepared legal action with a costly fine, as the striker’s attitude is considered completely unacceptable, regardless of the reasoning behind it.”

The standoff has stalled transfer negotiations between Atalanta and Inter Milan, with both clubs waiting for the other to make the next move. Lookman is said to believe there was a verbal agreement allowing him to leave this summer if a suitable offer was received.

Inter have already agreed personal terms with the forward on a deal worth €4.5 million per year until 2030. Still, their latest proposal of €42 million plus €3 million in add-ons is below Atalanta’s €50 million valuation. The Serie A club are reluctant to sell to a domestic rival and are hopeful other clubs will make improved bids.

Tottenham Hotspur are among the teams monitoring the situation, viewing Lookman as a possible alternative to Real Madrid’s Rodrygo in their search for a replacement for Son Heung-min.

Lookman, who scored 20 goals across all competitions last season, has two years remaining on his contract. He has already submitted a transfer request and unfollowed Atalanta on social media, signalling his intention to leave.
