Atalanta have confirmed they rejected a €20 million offer from Paris Saint-Germain for Nigeria international Ademola Lookman, revealing that a gentleman’s agreement was already in place to allow the forward to leave under specific terms.
Club CEO Antonio Percassi disclosed the details while speaking about the club’s stance on Ademola Lookman’s future amidst growing interest from Inter Milan.
Naija News has reported that Lookman accused Atalanta of not keeping to promise, stressing that the Italian giants have refused to allow him to leave.
“The pact with Lookman was made one year ago when we rejected €20m from PSG,” Percassi said. “We told him: we’ll let you leave in 2025 for a super top club and not in Italy. Now, the situation [with Inter] is different… and as always, it’s us deciding.”
The 26-year-old, who shone brightly for Atalanta in their UEFA Europa League triumph last season, scoring a memorable hat-trick in the final, has now submitted a transfer request, reportedly pushing to join Inter Milan this summer despite the initial agreement.
Percassi’s comments suggest Atalanta are keen on honouring the spirit of their deal with Lookman but remain firmly in control of any potential transfer outcome.
Meanwhile, in England, Sky Bet Championship side Ipswich Town have pulled off a late swoop to sign Chuba Akpom from Dutch giants Ajax.
According to reports from Sky Sports, the deal is structured as a loan with a compulsory buy clause worth £7 million, triggered if Ipswich gain promotion to the Premier League.
The Nigerian-born forward was originally scheduled for medicals at Birmingham City on Monday, but Ipswich acted swiftly to hijack the move.
Akpom, 29, has been deemed surplus to requirements at Ajax. The former Arsenal academy product spent the second half of last season on loan at Lille, where he notched three goals and one assist in 14 Ligue 1 appearances.
With Ipswich eyeing a return to the English top flight, Akpom’s experience and versatility could prove pivotal in their promotion push.
