AC Milan are on the verge of landing Nigerian striker Victor Boniface after reaching a verbal agreement with Bayer Leverkusen, with only final paperwork and personal terms left to complete.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano revealed on Wednesday that the deal will take the form of a loan with a €30 million buy option, though the clause is not mandatory.

“AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen are preparing formal documents after a verbal agreement for Victor Boniface. A loan deal with a €30 m buy option clause is not mandatory. AC Milan now in direct talks with Victor Boniface’s agent over personal terms, key final step to get the deal done,” Romano posted on 𝕏.

The 24-year-old forward has already given the green light to the switch. According to Romano, Boniface has accepted Milan’s contract proposal, with negotiations continuing over the finer points of the deal.

“Negotiations underway today as Victor said yes to AC Milan contract proposal, talks continue over deal structure,” he added.

The development comes as something of a curveball. Milan’s search for a new centre-forward was widely believed to focus on Rasmus Højlund or Dusan Vlahovic. But behind closed doors, the Rossoneri have been working quietly to lure Boniface to San Siro.

Italian outlet Sky Italia reports growing optimism in Milan that the deal will be wrapped up quickly, while German journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed Leverkusen are “leaning towards yes,” partly due to the player’s desire to play in Serie A.

Boniface enjoyed a solid campaign in Germany last season, netting 11 goals in the Bundesliga as Leverkusen relinquished their title under Xabi Alonso.

The Nigerian international has been earmarked as the ideal spearhead for Massimiliano Allegri’s Milan side as they prepare for a fresh chapter.

If completed, the move would mark a decisive shift in Milan’s transfer strategy, with Boniface now poised to don the famous red and black shirt.
