Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, has described his historic move to Galatasaray as a “homecoming”.
Victor Osimhen expressed deep gratitude to the Turkish champions and their passionate supporters following his record-breaking €75 million transfer from Napoli.
Naija News reports that Osimhen was officially unveiled to thunderous cheers in Istanbul on Wednesday night, where thousands of Galatasaray fans thronged the Atatürk Airport and lined the city streets to welcome the Nigerian superstar.
The 26-year-old’s arrival shattered Turkey’s transfer record, previously held by Youssef En-Nesyri’s €19.5 million move to Fenerbahçe, and positioned him as the most expensive player in the country’s football history.
“This is where I can express myself fully through my football and with everything that I am,” Osimhen said in his first interview with the club, released via Galatasaray’s official YouTube channel. “I’m truly grateful to everyone who worked to bring me here. I came because I love this place, and I feel good here.”
The Nigerian international, who spent last season on loan with Galatasaray, pointed to the overwhelming welcome he received from fans during that stint as a key factor in his decision to stay permanently.
“I want to sincerely thank all the fans who followed our flight and came out to welcome me. I believe I will give my best here and show myself in the best way,” he added.
Osimhen also paid tribute to the Galatasaray leadership for their role in sealing the high-profile deal. He praised club president, vice president Abdullah Bey, technical advisor George Gardi, and head coach Okan Buruk for their trust and support throughout the negotiations.
“I can’t wait to meet the fans again. This is my home now,” he said.
Note that Osimhen’s price tag has eclipsed those of former Galatasaray stars such as Gabriel Sara (€18m), Mario Jardel (€17m), and Nicolo Zaniolo (€15m).
