Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, has reignited political conversations after hinting at a possible run in the 2027 presidential election, assuring that a formal declaration would be made “in due course.”

Naija News reports that Atiku made the comments during a brief interaction with journalists, as captured in a viral post shared on his 𝕏 handle.

When asked about his intentions for the 2027 race and when he would officially announce his candidacy, the 77-year-old politician, who has sought the presidency since 1993, responded with a confident smile, “We will let you know. We will give you a formal announcement.”

Pressed further on what would happen if he failed to secure the 2027 presidential ticket, Atiku replied, “Have I ever failed to get the ticket? I’m confident.”

Reacting to calls for younger candidates to lead the country, Atiku maintained that democracy allows everyone a fair chance to contest.

“Let the youths contest now. It’s democracy,” he said.

Naija News understands that Atiku may contest on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, as a member, who has also expressed interest in contesting in the 2027 presidential election.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, who is a member of the coalition has also insisted on contesting in the forthcoming election.

Following Atiku’s latest stand at winning the party’s ticket, this shows that the former Vice President is not ready to step down for any aspirant under the coalition.
