By-Election: APC Knocks ADC Over Poll Manipulation Claim In Akwa Ibom Poll

The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that the just-concluded by-elections were manipulated.

The APC described the claim as a desperate attempt to deflect attention from the party’s poor showing at the polls.

Naija News reports that in the official results released on Sunday, APC secured 12 constituencies, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won two, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) also clinching two each.

Reacting in a statement on Monday in Uyo, the APC Director General, Media Network, Otuekong John, said the outcome of the polls reflected the strength and popularity of the ruling party across the country.

He attributed the electoral successes to the quality of leadership provided by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that the President’s commitment to equitable development had earned the trust of Nigerians.

“The APC’s success is attributed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership and commitment to equitable development and good governance. The party’s leadership and dedication to democratic principles have earned the trust of Nigerians,” John stated.

The APC chieftain rejected the ADC’s allegation of manipulation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing it as baseless.

“We reject the ADC’s allegations of electoral manipulation by INEC. These claims are an attempt to deflect attention from their own failures. Nigerians have consistently shown trust in the APC, and this trend is unlikely to change,” he said.

He added that the outcome of the by-elections was a clear sign of what to expect in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that the ADC and its coalition partners lacked the electoral strength to mount any credible challenge.

“The ADC coalition is nothing more than paper tigers with no electoral strength. Given the APC’s strong track record and the opposition’s lacklustre performance, it is evident they cannot pose any credible challenge to APC’s dominance,” John maintained.

The APC urged opposition politicians to stop what it described as negative campaigning and unfounded claims, and instead focus on developing policy ideas that meet Nigerians’ needs.

“In light of the APC’s momentum and the opposition’s weaknesses, we advise ADC coalition politicians to reassess their strategies and prepare for a negative outcome in the 2027 election. Nigerians deserve more than propaganda,” the statement added.

John further called on Nigerians to rally behind President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that the APC remains committed to delivering transformative governance and building a united, prosperous, and progressive nation.
