The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has dismissed reports claiming that the All Progressives Congress (APC) lost at his polling unit during Saturday’s Garki/Babura Federal Constituency by-election in Jigawa State.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his media aide, Mati Ali, the minister described the reports as “false, untrue, and deliberately misleading,” insisting that they were the handiwork of mischief makers bent on tarnishing his image.

He said, “Our attention has been drawn to the circulation of an election result from Babura Kofar Arewa Polling Unit 001, mischievously attributed to the Honourable Minister of Defence, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni. This claim is false, untrue, and deliberately misleading.

“We wish to categorically state that the report is nothing but the handiwork of mischief makers seeking to distort facts and tarnish the good image of the Honourable Minister.”

Badaru clarified that his actual polling unit was Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School Polling Unit 002, not the one being circulated in the viral report.

According to him, the official results as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and confirmed by the Returning Officer showed that the APC secured 188 votes. In comparison, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 164 votes.

“This official result confirms that the Honourable Minister secured a clear and convincing victory in his polling unit in favour of the APC,” the statement added.

The Defence Minister’s office urged APC members, the media, and the general public to disregard what it called “false claims” and to rely solely on authentic results declared by INEC.
