A Nigerian lady, Romoke Adunbarin Lasisi, has shared her remarkable journey from a cleaner to a first class graduate. Adunbarin graduated with a first class honours in Mathematics from the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, four years after she narrated how a colleague questioned her for being comfortable posting photos of herself in a cleaning uniform. Colleague asked me how I feel comfortable posting with a cleaner’s uniform. Well, I told her it doesn’t matter that won’t make people who don’t like me to start liking me. Beside that’s who I am presently but I won’t be forever, she wrote in an post dated April 30, 2021. She got admitted to the university in September 2021 to study Mathematics. Over the years, she also took data analysis and science courses. In a post on Saturday, August 16, 2025 she provided insight on how she went from being a cleaner to a graduate and data scientist. “First-Class Mathematics Graduate. Passionate Data Scientist. Volunteered Tutor for Data Analysis with Python in my department. Co-Founder & Volunteer Data Tutor at The Emerging Minds Foundation. Data Science Tutor at the CSA Africa Workshop, University of Nairobi,” she wrote. All I had was hope and the belief that with God, everything gets better with time, she added.
