The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Adesola Elegbeji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the by-election held on Saturday for Remo Federal Constituency, Ogun State.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Kazeem Bello, announced the results at the Ikenne collation centre in the early hours of Sunday. He affirmed that Elegbeji fulfilled all electoral requirements and was duly elected to represent Remo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

“That Elegbeji Adesola Yetunde Ayoola of APC, having satisfied the requirement of law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Prof. Bello declared.

According to Bello, Elegbeji secured a total of 41,237 votes, defeating her closest rival, Bolarinwa Oluwole of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 14,324 votes.

The vote distribution across the three local government areas showed:

Ikenne LGA – APC: 10,227; PDP: 5,595

Remo North LGA – APC: 8,053; PDP: 992

Sagamu LGA – APC: 22,958; PDP: 7,737

Naija News recalls that the by-election followed the death of the former representative of the constituency, Adewunmi Onanuga, who passed away on January 15 after a brief illness.
