Boko Haram Terrorists Burn Church In Borno, Kill Villagers

No fewer than 25 members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) faction of Boko Haram have surrendered to Nigerian Army troops in Bama, Borno State.

A military source told The Nation that the surrendered group comprised 12 adult females and 13 children from Zalmari, Gazuwa, and Alafa villages. They are currently undergoing profiling by the 21 Special Armoured Brigade.

According to the source, on August 11, troops of 233 Battalion, in conjunction with the Civilian Joint Task Force, laid an ambush along the Sassawa–Kaburu axis in Damaturu Local Government Area of Yobe State, killing one terrorist and recovering an AK-47 rifle.

The same day, troops of the 1 Brigade Combat Team 5 in Zamfara State repelled a planned attack on the Forward Operating Base in Galadi, Shinkafi Local Government Area, neutralising one terrorist and seizing a mobile phone.

On August 12, troops acting on intelligence from a rescued kidnap victim stormed Gremasa Mountain in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State, arresting eight suspected kidnappers.

In a related operation, troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE Sector 3 Forward Operating Base in Wukari, Taraba State, apprehended two suspected kidnap collaborators.

The military source further disclosed that five suspected pipeline vandals were arrested by troops of Sector 4 Operation SAFE HAVEN in Plateau State.

On August 13, troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade launched an offensive on an IPOB/ESN camp at Ndeji Community, a border area between Anambra, Abia, and Imo states.

“One criminal was neutralised, and troops recovered a pistol with ammunition, cartridges, radios, IED components, mobile phones, and other items,” the source said. Two planted Improvised Explosive Devices were also destroyed by the EOD team.
