‘Your Arrogance Is Not New’ – Tinubu’s Aide Blasts Babachir Lawal

The presidency has fired back at former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, over the comment that he would not have coped in the current administration if he were a member of President Bola Tinubu‘s cabinet.

Naija News reports that Lawal, during an interview on Channels Television, claimed that if he had been part of the Tinubu government, he might have been killed, sacked or resigned by himself.

He accused the present administration of nepotism and also of creating hardship for Nigerians through its policies.

He said, “I thank God that I didn’t make the mistake of being in this government ab initio.

“If I were in this government, I probably would have been sacked a long time ago, killed or resigned.” 

Reacting via a statement on 𝕏, the Special Adviser, Media & Public Communication to the President, Sunday Dare, asserted that Lawal’s arrogance is not new.

The presidential aide also recalled Babachir’s response after his sack as SFG in 2017, as well as his display of pride and questioning of the presidency.

He said, “You also declared you “would have been sacked” in a Tinubu administration. Instructively, you were sacked but under President Buhari’s government, not Tinubu’s. You claim you would have resigned if you were part of this administration.

“The truth? Whether under Tinubu, Buhari, or even your preferred Peter Obi (who still perches on the wings of mere “desperation” or is it aspiration), your overinflated sense of self-importance would have led to the same outcome: a quick exit.

“Your arrogance is not new. Was it not you, in 2017, who on hearing of your sack as SGF scoffed, “Who is the Presidency?” as though the presidency were a one-man office, and no one could remove you without your own permission? Such hubris then, such hubris now.

“Babachir Lawal, these televised monologues do not make you relevant. They merely remind Nigerians why you are no longer in office and fast sinking into political and community oblivion. It is not too late to retrace your steps!”
