1. ‘This Is Not How To Fight Corruption’ – Atiku Fingers Tinubu In Tambuwal’s Arrest

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has accused President Bola Tinubu of using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to intimidate, harass and decimate the opposition.

Naija News reports that Atiku made this known while reacting to the arrest and detention of the former Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, by the EFCC.

In a statement via 𝕏 on Tuesday, Atiku stated that the Tinubu administration, like other aspects, has exploited the fight against corruption as a political tool to coerce opposition leaders into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku further stated that Tinubu’s administration is deviating from the objectives of EFCC, stressing that “This is not how to fight the monster of corruption. Indeed, such tendencies provide the stimulant for corruption to thrive.”

The former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) added that while the genuine fight against corruption is a matter that requires the total support of all Nigerians, the objectification of it as a political agenda should be roundly condemned by all in civil society spaces and friends of Nigeria in the international community.

2. ‘No Staff Will Be Spared If Found Culpable’ – NCoS Boss, Nwakuche Confirms Keffi Jail Break

The Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, has confirmed that sixteen inmates escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Keffi, Nasarawa State, in the early hours of Tuesday after breaching the facility’s security.

Naija News reports that the spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, Umar Abubakar, in a statement on Tuesday, disclosed that Nwakuche visited the facility following the incident and has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape.

Abubakar said the inmates reportedly overpowered personnel on duty during the breakout, and Nwakuche has stated that any staff found complicit in the escape would face disciplinary action.

According to him, Nwakuche also directed a coordinated manhunt for the fleeing inmates, working closely with other security agencies.

He further urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant, and to report any suspicious activity or sightings of the escapees to the nearest security post.

3. Dangote Refinery Reduces Petrol Price To ₦820 Per Litre

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a reduction in the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, from ₦850 to ₦820 per litre.

Naija News reports that the price adjustment was contained in a statement on Tuesday by the Dangote Group’s Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina.

The statement reads, “Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a reduction in the ex-depot (gantry) price of Premium Motor Spirit, commonly referred to as petrol, by ₦30 from ₦850 to ₦820 per litre, effective from 12th August 2025.”

The refinery reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria’s economic development, assuring the public of a steady supply of petroleum products.

4. Why Peter Obi May Not Be Able To Fulfil Promise Of One-term Presidency – Sani

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Sani, has stated that Peter Obi may not be able to fulfil his promise to serve only one term in office if elected as President of Nigeria due to pressure from his supporters.

Sani, who spoke during Tuesday’s edition of Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, argued that the promise may ultimately be out of Obi’s control.

The PDP chieftain added that he believes Peter Obi has every intention of fulfilling his one-term promise but apart from his supporters, if the Labour Party chieftain performs well in office, other Nigerians would also want him to contest for a second term.

Despite his belief in Obi’s integrity, Sani stated that former President Goodluck Jonathan is the best candidate the PDP can field for the 2027 elections.

According to him, the Jonathan option is in the interest of the northern region, as he can not do more than a single term of four years as a result of constitutional restrictions.

5. ‘They Know They Have Issues That Necessitated Their Invitations By The Commission’ – EFCC Fires Back At ADC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of making unwarranted political statements capable of heating up the polity.

The EFCC also insisted that it runs a non-partisan anti-corruption crusade, contrary to what the ADC has been alleging.

The anti-graft agency insisted that it would not be blackmailed or pressurized into dropping any case involving Nigerians suspected of corrupt activities just because the ADC feels otherwise.

The EFCC urged the ADC to note that those they are trying to defend are fully aware that they have issues that necessitated their invitations by the Commission.

Naija News reports the EFCC made its stand known in a statement issued on Tuesday following the allegation by the ADC that the government is using the agency to harass and intimidate opposition party leaders.

The opposition party was reacting to Monday’s overnight detention of one of the leaders of the coalition and former Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, and the invitation to Imo State Government officials to “urgently” provide information on the seven-month tenure of former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha.

Naija News reports, however, that the EFCC insisted that it does not belong to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) but to all Nigerians and would not be distracted from its mandate.

6. Soludo Speaks After Meeting With Tinubu In Aso Rock

The Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, says his friendship with President Bola Tinubu spans over two decades and will not be undermined by political affiliations.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday shortly after a closed-door meeting with the President at the State House, Soludo described their discussion as “quite pleasant” and noted that Tinubu is in “robust health and high spirits.”

Soludo said, “I have no apologies about it. President Tinubu is my friend. He has been my friend for 22 years now and counting, so you don’t deny your friend.

“I support him, and I’m impressed by the bold steps he has taken, particularly in the areas of the economy and structural reforms. We are taking the right steps, and we need to stay the course.”

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governor stated that his support for Tinubu stems from a broader ideological conviction that progressive parties should collaborate.

On security in the state, Soludo said his administration is combining “kinetic and non-kinetic” approaches. He explained that the Homeland Security Law, passed in January, is being enforced alongside a crackdown on criminal elements, especially those exploiting young people.

7. ‘Women Are Free To Approach Me First’ – Praiz

Nigerian singer Praiz has shared his views on dating dynamics, saying he is comfortable with women approaching him first.

Naija News reports that he shared this during a recent episode of Hot Takes.

The Rich and Famous crooner addressed how people deal with rejection, pointing out that many struggle when a romantic interest is not returned.

Praiz explained that rejection can sometimes be a form of protection, suggesting that it may prevent individuals from entering situations that are not meant for them.

He added that both men and women should learn to handle such experiences without resentment.

He also observed that women often express interest in subtle ways, such as liking photos or engaging with posts on social media, instead of direct approaches.

According to him, building emotional resilience is important for maintaining healthy relationships and understanding that not every romantic attempt will succeed.

8. I’d Rather Die Than Denounce Jesus – Spyro

Nigerian singer, Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, popularly known as Spyro, has shared how his commitment to his faith shaped his career, even when it meant going against the advice of his own team.

Naija News reports that, leaving his record label in 2019 to start his own, Spyro said he funded the venture with bank and personal loans, working without any external financial support.

Along the way, some team members urged him to drop his “Jesus Boy” brand and remove “Christ Ambassador” from his profile, believing it limited his appeal.

Spyro stood his ground, declaring that he would rather die than remove Jesus from his identity.

He also turned down a suggestion to replace it with “Child of God,” insisting that his faith would create opportunities for him.

9. Jack Grealish Joins Everton From Manchester City

Everton have secured the loan signing of Jack Grealish from their Premier League rivals, Manchester City for the 2025/2026 season.

The 29-year-old England international will don the No. 18 shirt at Goodison Park as coach David Moyes continues with the rebuild of Everton ahead of the forthcoming season.

Jack Grealish arrives with an enviable medal collection, having won three Premier League titles, two FA Cups, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup during his time at City.

Grealish’s arrival makes him the Toffees’ sixth new signing of the summer, following Charly Alcaraz’s permanent move and the acquisitions of Thierno Barry, Mark Travers, Adam Aznou, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Speaking to evertontv, the former Aston Villa captain couldn’t hide his excitement about the move.

10. Alexander Isak Pushes For Liverpool Move As Newcastle Brace For Striker Shake-Up

Alexander Isak has made it clear he wants to leave Newcastle United, with the Sweden international eyeing a move to Premier League champions Liverpool before the transfer window closes on September 1.

BBC Sport reports that multiple sources close to Alexander Isak, 24, confirm his ambition to join Liverpool, despite Newcastle United rejecting a staggering £110 million offer from the Reds earlier this month.

Liverpool, at the time, suggested they were ready to walk away from negotiations, but Isak’s stance may yet revive talks.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe fuelled speculation after the Magpies’ 2-1 pre-season defeat to Atletico Madrid, admitting “everything is in play” regarding the striker’s future.

However, he also stressed it was “clear” he cannot involve Isak in his current plans. That decision means the club’s 27-goal top scorer from last season is expected to miss Saturday’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa.

Isak’s summer has been far from straightforward. A “minor” thigh injury kept him out of Newcastle’s tour of the Far East, and he trained separately at former club Real Sociedad before quietly returning to Tyneside last week.

With three years still left on his contract, Newcastle’s reluctance to sell remains strong but their inability to land a replacement could be the bigger hurdle.
