The Senate has announced plans to conduct a comprehensive investigation into recent high-profile airline passenger incidents that have raised concerns over operational standards, passenger rights, and discipline within Nigeria’s aviation sector.

In a statement on Tuesday, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari (APC, Oyo North), said the developments require “immediate and coordinated action” to protect the integrity of the industry and restore public confidence.

Senator Buhari stated that the investigation will be conducted in accordance with the Senate’s constitutional powers, involving key regulatory agencies, airline operators, security bodies, and public interest groups.

The aim, he explained, is to establish the facts, review existing procedures, and ensure the swift implementation of any corrective measures.

“We will not allow procedural gaps or lapses in enforcement to undermine safety, professionalism, or public trust in our aviation system. The Senate Committee on Aviation will ensure accountability at all levels,” Buhari stated.

The committee assured Nigerians that it is maintaining active oversight and will drive the process toward enforceable solutions to prevent such incidents from recurring.

The probe follows two widely reported cases. The first involves Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, who was allegedly involved in a disruption at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport while attempting to board a ValueJet flight to Lagos with a liquid substance later identified as alcohol.

According to reports, the musician refused to comply with security procedures, leading to a confrontation with airline staff and eventual removal from the aircraft by aviation security.

In the second case, Ibom Air recently banned a passenger, Comfort Emmanson, for allegedly assaulting crew members on a Uyo–Lagos flight. The airline said Emmanson was removed from the ramp, taken into custody by Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) security, and handed over to the police for investigation.
