Speaker Tajudeen Reacts To Tanker Explosion Incident On Zaria-Kano Highway

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, on Tuesday, expressed his deep concern over the tanker explosion that occurred on the Zaria-Kano highway on Monday.

Naija News reports that the accident took place around 8:30 a.m. in the Dan Magaji area of Zaria when a Liquefied Natural Gas (LPG) tanker, heading to Kano, collided with the rear of an empty fuel tanker after a tyre blowout.

The collision triggered a massive explosion, leading to initial reports suggesting multiple fatalities.

However, the Chairman of Zaria Local Government, Engineer Jamil Muhammad, later confirmed that there were no fatalities.

He clarified that four individuals were injured in the explosion but were promptly evacuated to a nearby hospital, where they received immediate medical care.

Debunking False Reports

Contrary to earlier speculations, Engineer Muhammad also debunked reports claiming that two commercial Golf vehicles were involved in the accident. He confirmed that no such vehicles were part of the incident.

Other relevant authorities, including the Kaduna State Police Command, Nasir Falgore, the Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Zaria, and Aminu Kiyawa, the Area Commander of the Federal Fire Service, also confirmed that there were no fatalities from the accident.

With the cooperation of the Chairman of Zaria Local Government, personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps managed to control traffic on the busy highway, ensuring minimal disruption.

Meanwhile, officials from the Federal Fire Service worked relentlessly to extinguish the raging fire and prevent further damage.

Speaker’s Call for Adherence to Safety Standards

Reacting to the development in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Speaker Tajudeen described the incident as unfortunate and stressed the need for greater attention to safety on Nigerian roads.

He lamented the unfortunate incident and called for more efforts to prevent such accidents in the future.

“This accident is a stark reminder of the need for greater vigilance on our roads. Incidents like these are avoidable when proper safety standards are adhered to,” he said.

He also urged motorists to be more cautious and respect driving regulations, stressing that violating road safety rules leads to avoidable accidents that put lives at risk.
