D’Tigers: NBBF Releases 17-Man Provisional Squad For 2025 FIBA Afrobasket

Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, arrived in Luanda, Angola, on Sunday ahead of the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket tournament, which begins on Tuesday.

Naija News reports that the tournament is coming days after Nigerian women’s basketball team, D’Tigress won their 5th successive Afrobasket. 

Ahead of the men’s version of the tournament, D’tigers’ final 12-man roster, released on Saturday, includes NBA shooting guard Josh Okogie of the Houston Rockets, Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu, Talib Zanna, Stan Okoye, and Mike Nuga. Others are Devine Eke, Christian Mekowulu, Martins Igbanu, Ugo Andrew Simon, Emmanuel Omogbo, Ike Nwamu, and Caleb Agada.

Fola Fayemi, Kareem Joseph, and Mohamed AbdulSalam were dropped from the provisional squad, while Peter Olisemeka was excluded after being declared ineligible.

Head coach Mohammed Abdulrahman leads the technical crew, with Deji Akindele and Ikenna Smart as assistants. Stan Okoye and Ike Nwamu will serve as co-captains.

Nigeria, placed in Group B with defending champions Tunisia, Cameroon, and Madagascar, will face Madagascar on August 13, Tunisia on August 15, and Cameroon on August 17. The knockout stage starts on August 18, with the final scheduled for August 24 at the Pavilhão Multiusos de Luanda.

D’Tigers are seeking their second AfroBasket title, having last won the competition in 2015. In the 2021 edition, they were eliminated by Uganda in the pre-quarterfinals.
