Nigerian music video director, TG Omori, has shared how the church played a major role in shaping his career in filmmaking.
Naija News reports that he explained that his journey into directing began during church drama nights, which gave him a platform to discover and develop his acting and directing skills.
In a post on Twitter, he explained that at the time, his neighbourhood had no social clubs or community theatres.
Omori said the church not only provided him with opportunities but also guided him to pursue a career in filmmaking.
He defended the role of religion in people’s lives, stating that while some may focus on economic success, others find fulfilment in spirituality.
He said that many individuals have faced life experiences that drew them closer to faith, and this choice should be respected.
He wrote: “Life isn’t all about making money or chasing economic power, some people find comfort and solace in spirituality or religion. Even the china you all speak of have monks and spiritualists who have found peace in their search and pursuit for eternal life with no interest in the wealth of the world. Because you haven’t experienced life events that has left you with no choices doesn’t make you wiser, a billion religious people can’t all be stupid. Just live and let live.
“The Church funded and advised me to pick up a career in filmmaking, The church gave me a platform to discover my acting and directing skills at drama nights when the hood or trenches had to social club or neighborhood theater houses. I know everyone have their frustrations and augments but please give the church a breathing space . If i calculate my whole family offering for 10years growing up e no reach 20k. Money wey my papa Dey take down beer steady that year.
“Jesus Christ will forever be my lord n personal savior and i shall never be too cool to proclaim his goodness and mercies.”
