Pastor, Two Others Killed In Fresh Bandits Attack In Plateau Community

Bandits have once again attacked Suwa and Ding’ak villages in the Mushere chiefdom of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, killing three persons, including a pastor.

Naija News understands that the attack took place between 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm on Friday, August 8, 2025, resulting in the deaths of Pastor Gideon Katings of COCIN Suwa, Sunday Ringkang, and Meshach Bukata.

Confirming the killings to The PUNCH in Jos on Friday night, Kefas Mallai, Chairman of the Community Peace Observers in Bokkos, identified the victims and disclosed that Michael Kamshak and several others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at the Cottage Hospital in Bokkos.

Mallai added that the attack had left hundreds of residents displaced and that the community is currently grappling with the aftermath.

“Between 1:00 hours and 2:00 today, Friday, 8th August 2025, Suwa and Ding’ak villages in Mushere chiefdom of Bokkos LGA were attacked by terrorists, leading to the untimely death of three, including Pst. Gideon Katings of COCIN Suwa, Sunday Ringkang, and Meshach Bukata; while Michael Kamshak and others were injured and are currently receiving treatment at Cottage Hospital Bokkos. Several residents in their hundreds have been displaced,” Mallai said.

Alabo Alfred, spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, was unavailable for comment as his phone was switched off at the time of the inquiry.

The killings come amid rising insecurity in Bokkos, with more than 20 villagers killed in separate attacks over the last month, alongside widespread destruction of property.

The Chairman of Bokkos LGA, Amalau Samuel Amalau, has called on security agencies to take decisive action against the attackers, stressing the need to protect innocent lives and prevent further displacement of residents.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has strongly condemned the attacks, calling them genocide and a coordinated attempt at land grabbing.

Mutfwang vowed to collaborate with security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of the affected communities.a
