Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to expel members who openly campaigned against the party during the 2023 general elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Lamido named Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, and former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, among those he said should face immediate expulsion.

Lamido said, “All those erring members, the Wikes, the Ortoms, the Ikpeazus and others, who openly campaigned against the PDP in the 2023 elections, and who say that they are going to work for APC in 2027, should be sacked from the party.”

The former governor accused the party of tolerating a long-standing culture of impunity, where members undermine its unity without consequences.

He recalled that after the party’s 2022 primaries, some members, driven by personal ambition, turned against the PDP in the general elections.

He further stated, “From way back after the primaries of 2022 leading to the elections of 2023, there are people who, because of their own interest and ambition, felt aggrieved about what transpired in the party’s convention… And they turned out against the party and fought the party.”

Lamido lamented that despite provisions in the party’s constitution for sanctions, the leadership had allowed such behaviour to persist for over 18 months.

He also announced that he would boycott the Board of Trustees (BOT) meetings until disciplinary action is taken against those who worked against the party.

“In the constitution, if you breach the party’s code, you are sanctioned. But somehow, going into a ditch, the party executives are now alive to their responsibilities,” he stated.

Earlier on Friday, the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) warned members openly expressing support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections to desist or face sanctions.

The NWC described such conduct as anti-party and a violation of the PDP constitution, stressing that it would not condone actions capable of undermining the party’s cohesion and electoral prospects.
