Major League Soccer (MLS) side, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, have signed German football legend, Thomas Müller from FC Bayern Munich.
The Whitecaps acquired the Discovery Priority for Thomas Müller from FC Cincinnati in exchange for $200,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money (GAM), $100,000 in 2026 GAM, and a conditional $100,000 in 2026 GAM.
The former Bayern Munich star is signed through the 2025 season, with a Designated Player option for 2026.
“Thomas is a world-class player, the ultimate Raumdeuter ‘Interpreter of space’, known for his elite chance creation, unmatched spatial awareness, and relentless off-the-ball movement,” said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC CEO and sporting director.
“This is a statement signing by our club and our ownership, a transformative moment for our club and our city.”
Müller will arrive in Vancouver next Wednesday. His official media introduction and first training session are scheduled for Thursday. The Whitecaps will play six of their final nine regular-season matches at BC Place, including a home game on Sunday, August 17.
“I’m looking forward to coming to Vancouver to help this team win a championship,” said Müller. “I’ve had great conversations with Axel Schuster and Jesper Sørensen, and now I can’t wait to play in front of the supporters and to see all of the fans come out to BC Place as we head towards the playoffs.”
Müller joins the Whitecaps following a 17-year career with Bayern Munich, where he made 756 appearances, scored 250 goals, and recorded 238 assists.
He won 33 major trophies with the club, including 13 Bundesliga titles, six DFB-Pokal Cups, two UEFA Champions League trophies, and two FIFA Club World Cups.
Internationally, Müller earned 131 caps for Germany, scored 45 goals, and contributed 41 assists. He was part of Germany’s 2014 World Cup-winning squad and won the Golden Boot at the 2010 World Cup.
The move comes as Vancouver lead the MLS Western Conference in points per game and positions themselves as a strong contender for the championship.
