A 32-year-old man, Rasaq Gafar, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly threatening the life of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.

Naija News reports that Gafar faced charges of threat to kill, danger to life, and breach of peace. He pleaded not guilty to all counts.

Prosecutor Matthew Ojei told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 12 in Ibadan.

Ojei alleged that Gafar posted messages on social media threatening to kill Governor Adeleke and conducted himself in a manner likely to disturb public peace.

The prosecutor said the offences violated Sections 249(D) and 323 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Defence Counsel, Marvelous Ojeleye, pleaded with the court to grant bail to the defendant on liberal terms.

Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi granted Gafar bail for ₦2.5 million with two sureties in like sum.

According to the court, one of the sureties must own a landed property, while the other should be a blood relative of the defendant.

The case was adjourned to November 13 for a hearing.

Naija News understands that Adeleke is currently in the United States to attend the wedding ceremony of his nephew, Davido.

The white wedding between Davido and Chioma Rowland is scheduled to take place in Miami, Florida, this August.
