Two policemen assigned to the Majority Leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Kingsley Ikoro, were on Sunday killed by unidentified gunmen in an ambush in Okigwe, Imo State.

According to sources who spoke with Vanguard, the attack happened while Ikoro and his entourage were travelling through the volatile Okigwe axis. One of the vehicles in the convoy reportedly broke down, forcing the two officers to stay behind while others continued the journey.

It was during this delay that the assailants struck, fatally shooting the officers. Okigwe has long been notorious for violent attacks and criminal activities, with security forces frequently targeted in the area.

Confirming the incident on Monday, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, vowed that those responsible for the ambush would be brought to justice.

Okoye said, “There is no hiding place for those behind this heinous crime. The bodies of the officers, who paid the supreme price in the line of duty, have been evacuated to a morgue, and a thorough investigation is underway.”

He added that tactical teams had been deployed to search the surrounding bushes for the perpetrators.

“We will ensure that these criminals face the full wrath of the law,” Okoye assured.
